SUMMARY:Greenwood Lake History Dinner
DESCRIPTION:We will be showcasing a 1 1/2-hour video presentation on a large movie screen. We will also have an area set up as the Museum Room showcasing many rare artifacts\, photos and treasures of Greenwood Lake’s past. Local historian and owner of the largest collection of GWL memorabilia\, Stephen Gross will be on hand to answer questions and share some tales and facts of the lake’s great history. The film reel we will be showing on the screen was curated by Bob Pereira\, proprietor of Cove Castle. Bob’s inspiration to create such a film came to him while doing a history dinner boat tour of the lake with passengers who won a free tour of GWL in a raffle for an event called “A friend in need of something nice”. A local resident\, Ed Jones had entered his friend Julie who was suffering from cancer at the time. Ed and Julie had been selected as one of the ten winners. After the cruise\, Ed told Bob about a video that was filmed in 1989 by Doris Greck and Wilbur Christman\, both longtime residents of GWL. Ed said that the video reminded him so much of the tour he just took and asked if Bob had seen it…Bob had not. Doris was the proprietor of the popular Grecks Maplewood Inn with a bigger than life personality and well known to everyone in the lake area. Wilbur Christman was a former Mayor of GWL\, Realtor\, local Historian and author of two historical books about GWL. Bob was loaned the video by local resident Stu Granitz and then decided to have it digitized. One of Doris’ quotes in the video was\, “I just wanted everyone to know just what it was like in Greenwood Lake in the past.”  This became the mantra and inspiration to help fulfill that desire of Doris’. Bob embarked on a deep dive into the history of GWL and collected as many photos\, film clips\, articles\, stories and tales as he could for months. Together with a friend\, they started the editing process. This became a bigger task than he first thought\, so he pulled more friends to help narrate\, edit and add to the film it has become today. \nThis film\, mini documentary\, reel (??)…Bob still is not sure what to call it\, is now ready to show again and has been shortened\, cleaned up since the first viewing that took place last year. The core of this film is the original video of Doris and Wilbur\, they both narrate a good part of the reel. Bob has added so much more content to the original and removed or replaced many of the visuals. There are new film footage\, photos\, tales and facts from the 1930’s to 2000’s as well. \nAs a good friend once said to Bob\, “Do you think this is worth twice the cover charge you paid to get in?” If that’s the case\, it’s zero times two! There is no cover!  Just the price of the 3-course gourmet dinner that comes with a free film and night at the museum. Entry will cost $45 per person which includes the 3 course pre fixe dinner and viewing of the documentary short of Greenwood Lake and GWL artifact Museum room experience with a guest Historian. \nThe Cove has hosted these events over the past year in our formal dining room upstairs at The Cove. Previous events have sold out and many friends of the Cove did not get a chance to participate\, so don’t miss out! \nHope to see you all soon. \nIf any guests attending these two History Dinner would like to bring and include any artifacts\, photos and or materials related to Greenwood lake history to be displayed in the museum room feel free to contact Bob Pereira at  bob@mhgnyc.com

Over the course of a career that dates back to 1994\, he has been a force of to be reckoned with on the guitar\, and his tempestuous\, soulful playing has never been more powerful. An imposing figure with a shaven head\, tattooed arms\, a goatee and a performance style he describes as “the Stooges meets Buddy Guy\, Motörhead meets Muddy Waters\, and Jimi Hendrix meets Robert Johnson\,” Popa Chubby is an endearing character who is one of the genre’s most popular figures. His career has always been about moving forward and carving a place for himself in the imposing terrain of the music business\, overcoming odds to continue growing and maturing as a creative force. He has built a constantly increasing base of fans across the world\, where in many territories he is a star. A native New Yorker\, Horowitz’s first gigs were in the NYC punk scene as a guitarist for what he reflects was a “crazy Japanese special effects performance artist in a kimono called Screaming Mad George who had a horror-movie inspired show.” Right from the start \n\n\nHe was immersed in rock ‘n’ roll as theater\, and learned from George and others playing CBGB’s at the time that included the Ramones\, the Cramps\, Richard Hell\, whose band\, the Voidoids he joined that rock ‘n’ roll should be dangerous. He reflects\, “Musicians like the Ramones and the Sex Pistols weren’t just bands. They were a threat to society.”  The Blues however was the foundation of his playing style. He recalls\, “Since I’d grown up on Hendrix\, Cream and Led Zeppelin\, when I started playing blues in New York clubs I understood that the blues should be dangerous\, too. It wasn’t just from playing in punk bands. Howlin’ Wolf and Muddy Waters were dangerous men. They’d cut or shoot you if they thought it was necessary\, and Little Walter packed a gun and wouldn’t  hesitate to use it. That danger is a real part of the Blues and I keep it alive in my music.” Popa Chubby is his own man for better or worse. He reflects\, “I’m living in a wild time\, and that is where the inspiration is drawn from. There are my issues\, but the picture is much bigger than me and my situation. Everything is breaking down in the world. The lines are being redefined. We all need something.” \n\nABOUT:  Craig Dryer Tenor and baritone saxophones\, Hammond B3 organ and keys\, vocals\, flute. A native New Yorker\, Craig has played his first professional gig at the age of 14. SUMMARY:Greenwood Lake History Dinner
DESCRIPTION:Due to popular demand Cove Castle has scheduled 2 more Greenwood Lake History Dinner events! \nThursday\, October 17th @ 6:30 and Sunday October 27th at 5:30 \nWe will be showcasing a 1 1/2-hour video presentation on a large movie screen on October 17th.  On October 27th we will also have an area set up as the Museum Room showcasing many rare artifacts\, photos and treasures of Greenwood Lake’s past.
